A friend running W98se on her pc is trying to install her new Nikon camera and keeps getting the ikernel.exe error message with an install shield problem. I have been advised that there could be a conflict with her update to Explorer 6.0. It has been mentioned that she format her drive and reinstall W98 but not the latest Explorer. If there is a way to uninstall Explorer 6.0 it may solve the problem. I guess there is no way to do that.
Does anyone have experience with this problem?

The actual window message goes like this: install shield engine (iKernal.exe) could not be launched. No such interface supported.

Thanks Rollin and Mosaic for your replies. Because we are of two different computers it may take us a while to work on the results. Please bear with us to try these suggestions. We may be down for the night so will pick up tomorrow.

My friend has found a resolve to her problem.
Thank you all so much.
She thinks she has a corrupt file in W98 and is going to take the plunge to an XP upgrade.
We hear that it is possible to do a stand alone install on a formatted drive with a 98 CD backup. I hope that works. If not you may hear from her directly as she is joining TSG helself.
