Hi

I got hijacked yesterday by the black screen you are being watched click here to fix it number. My IE was taken over as was my desktop. I have fixed the IE defaults in the registry manually but darned if I can get the desktop.

I have used:

Adaware
Spybot S & D
CWShredder
SpyWare Doctor
Norton Anti-virus

All have up to date definitions.

All of which have picked up different and interesting things, however I still have the flashing white/grey desktop (which from what I understand is because I deleted the desktop.html file that this thing dropped into my Windows folder)

So I'm totally at a loss now how to proceed. Can someone please have a look at the following HiJack this log and see if you can help.

Thanks so much for your time and trouble.
Regards
Jo

System is XP sp1
There are 3 identities on the system (3 different users, only my desktop is affected)
Software includes those mentioned above and WinMX and Soulseek, file sharing. PopUpStopper and Zone Alarm Free Versions too.
Oh almost forgot - there are 2 operating systems installed. C drive is about to be re-formatted and just used as storage. E drive is the currently used operating system

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

OK no vx2 there so do this

Go to Control Panel > Display. Click on the "Desktop" tab then click the "Customize Desktop" button. Click on the "Web" tab. Under "Web Pages" you should see an entry checked called something like "Security" or similar. Select that entry and click the "Delete" button. Click OK then Apply and OK.

then

download http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf and place it on desktop
right click the file and select install, that will reset the trusted zone domains that have been wrongly placed there

slight addition to my previous post

Download pocket killbox from Download pocket killbox from http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/killbox.exe & put it on the desktop where you can find it easily

Run hijackthis, put a tick in the box beside these entries listed below and ONLY these entries, double check to make sure, then make sure all browser & email windows are closed and press fix checked

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8131F4A0-31F6-49BC-A279-0C1BA2CF9634} - E:\WINDOWS\System32\pehmaaa.dll (file missing)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WindowsRegKey upd4te2d4te] hxztnytau.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [WindowsRegKey upd4te2d4te] hxztnytau.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WindowsRegKey upd4te2d4te] hxztnytau.exe

O15 - Trusted IP range: 67.19.185.246
O15 - Trusted IP range: (HKLM)

now run killbox and paste this lines into the box, select delete on reboot then press the red X button, say yes to the prompt then Yes to the reboot now

E:\WINDOWS\System32\hxztnytau.exe

when it reboots

then Go to Start > Run and type %temp% in the Run box, press OK . The Temp folder will open. Click Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of that Temp folder.

then go to C:\windows\temp and select EVERYTHING except temporary internet files, cookies and history folders and delete all that and then do the same for C:\temp

1) Open Control Panel
2) Click on Internet Options
3) On the General Tab, in the middle of the screen, click on Delete Files
4) You may also want to check the box "Delete all offline content"
5) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes the temporary internet files
6) You can now click on Delete Cookies and click OK to delete cookies that websites have placed on your hard drive

then
Reboot &

Download and unzip or install these programs/applications if you haven't already got them. If you have them, then make sure they are updated and configured as described

AdAware SE from http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download
and while you are at the adaware site download and install http://www.lavasoft.de/software/addons/vx2cleaner.shtml
and run it before the main adaware scan and follow it's directions
Run ADAWARE

Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate".
the current ref file should read at least SE1R27 05.02.2005 or a higher number/later date

Set up the Configurations as follows:

General Button
Safety:
Check (Green) all three.

Click on "Proceed"

Please deselect "Search for negligible risk entries", as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.

Click on "Scan Now"

Run the scanner using the Full Scan (Perform full system scan) mode.

When scan is finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose"select all" from the drop down menu) then press next and then say yes to the prompt, do you want to remove all these entries.

Download and install the Micro$oft antispyware BETA from http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx and let it fix anything it finds (when it finds things, please quarantine them rather than delete just in case as it is a beta and occasional False positives happen)

First press file and check for updates and then run it

Recent tests suggest that a combination of Adaware & M$AS removes approx 80% of spywares/Adwares, much higher than any other combination

Run an online antivirus check from at least one and preferably 2 of the following sites
http://security.symantec.com/default.asp?
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/
http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan/

http://www.freedom.net/viruscenter/onlineviruscheck.html
http://info.ahnlab.com/english/
http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/AntiVirusCntr.asp

reboot again

then post a new hijackthis log to check what is left

I have completed the first of the 2 posts above and that has got my desktop back to normal. Will proceed to the 2nd longer one. Have a few things to do (middle of the day here in oz) so may be a while before I get back to you.

Thanks so much. Dumb question - what exactly am I doing in the second longer post.

Regards
Jo

if anythiing is missing in the log, that is OK the O15 should have gone when we used the domains fix

but please follow the rest as that will clear up what we can't see in the logs

the main thing we were fixing in the second post looks like either an Agobot or Sdbot worm/trojan

and then a general clear up
