I'm thinking faulty on board video or bad BIOS?

    Hi all.

A friends Gateway desktop will not boot up. It does power up but nothing at all will display on the screen, not even the post diagnostic. I think that either there is something wrong with the BIOS or the on board video is gone and just won't display what is happening. Just wondering if anyone else would have any ideas?

    Thanks.

    Have you tried another monitor?

Do you get the POST beeps? Lights?

Yes. As I mentioned its a friends PC and I picked it up from him and hooked it up to my working monitor. No, I do not get any beeps at all. Just a blank screen. I was doing some looking around and found that there are some issues with this Gateway. Its a GM5067H with a C51gU01 MOBO and a Phoenix D686 BOIS. I'm really thinking the BOIS chip is corrupt and hotflashing is not an option here so a replacement might be required but I can't find where to get one yet.

What a nightmare! BTX board gone bad. New one is $210 for another piece of cr** MOBO. Need to salvage and rebuild with and ATX. This means, new MOBO, case, CPU fan, video card and PS. Cost...$300.00 or better. Dealing with Microsoft when I transfer this HDD, with its preloaded OS, to the new build...Priceless.
