Eddie Have you used the Windows version? There were so many dire disclaimers the last time I looked that I declined to try it.

I notice there are some fixes, so maybe it corrects the instability he warned about.

    Hiya slipe,

Nope, I just did a bit of digging around and found it. How can I say this? I'll just ask, What is it, and what does it do?

Think I may of heard of it. Was there something in Linux like this, or am I wrong? Curious now.

eddie5659 You are correct that it was a Linux program that he recently made a Windows version for. As recently as a couple of weeks ago he was warning that the Windows version could cause lockups and instability. It appears that he now has patches that make it stable.

It looks like a competent image editor with layers and the like. Think I’ll try it out to see if it supports a tablet. Don’t think I’ll stop using Photoshop but people are always looking for a free image editor.

    Thanks, slipe

I'll wait until my other pc is up and running, and download and look at it on there.

Well I installed it. It does support my tablet. About as non-intuitive as Photoshop and it took me years to become semi-competent at that.

It looks to be an excellent image editor but it would take a while to master.

Hi, I got it downloaded but it has changed since I last used it about 2 years ago. It is more complicated now than it was then by far. I think I will see if I can find "Picture It Express" from a friend, it will do what I want it too which is to contort the pictures. I have an exchange student living with me and I want to really screw up her picture and send it to her parents in the Netherlands, sneaky huh! Thanks for the replies.

    mogig,

Hehe some kids never grow up.

Your as bad as I am.

I did this in Ulead PhotoImpact 6 and Ulead GIF Animator 4.0.

I just today learn or starting to learn that I can these new things with the program.:D

    Hiya

hewee, can I ask a stupid question? How long does it take to do something like that?
There are quite a few of you on this board that are good with graphics. I might invest in a few programs and have a go, but I bet you need a lot of patience, eh?

The patience is in learning the programs. Some things are tedious like restoring old photos that have stains and damage. Applying a distortion and feeding it at different stages to the gif animator doesn’t take long at all.

I would recommend you use freeware to start and invest in a tablet. They have some small tablets that are going for less than $100 and will do a decent job. A mouse is a blunt tool for trying to work with graphics. The animated gif that Hewee did can be done with a mouse because you aren’t actually getting in and making fine alterations to the image.

I would rather use the available freeware with a tablet than do graphics with all of my heavy duty programs using a mouse.

Gimp looks like it will do it all but would take some decent tutorials to get up to speed. MS has a free gif animator BTW: http://mrzone.com/freeware/microgif.html

Hewee, I don't think I have moved like that in several years! Kinda scary looking if you know what I mean. I went to the ulead site, pretty good looking program. Thanks,

    eddie5659,

It was real easy really. Took less then 5 min to do. I croped the image in PhotoImpact 6 and then had to make and object out if it first then click on an mask that made the outline you see and then cut it out and pasted it into it's own image.
Then went the the effects and down to creative, transform. You get a window that shows all these things to pick from and you click one and and move your mouse pointer over the image and then click insert. You do that and again for each frame and the save it. I then used GIF Animator 4.0 to resample it to get the size down so I could post it. Plus you can make web page in PhotoImpact 6 and a lot more in the new PhotoImpact 7.

Here is one I sloooowed down for you see the frames better.
