I have a Speedtouch Modem and a Belkin Wireless Router. I get an average speed, although it has dropped lately.

I bought a Belkin 'N' Wireless Router+Modem. It would not make a connection to my ISP.
I have spent HOURS [Literally] on the phone with Belkin Techs and my ISP.
Changed settings - patched etc etc etc.
Belikin replaced the Router+Modem with an N+. SAME RESULT AS ABOVE.

A retailer lent me a NetGear G Router+Modem - SAME RESULT AS ABOVE.

Today a telephone engineer came and checked my line for faults. FINE. A1.

Now, my Speedtouch with Router WORKS.

So...EVERYONE says it's impossible that the others DO NOT work.

I'm told that if you simply plug a modem into any phone point with ASDL- you will get an ASDL light. I don't with the new stuff.

    My friend does.

What I'm experiencing is impossible - but is it ?

The men in white coats will soon be here. Help.

Hi:So maybe the place to start would be post up an

    ipconfig /all

while trying to use the failing environment.

Is it possible that the wire that connects the modem with the router is damaged?
Also make sure that the Ethernet cable is plugged in the WLAN port on the router not the LAN.

Actually, I'd like to see the following connected directly to the ADSL modem.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

    IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I'm sure you've covered this with your ISP, but just in case something was missed ...

Is the Speedtouch a modem only or a modem/router combo?

Do you have the WAN (Internet) section of the router part of the new Belkin modem/router configured properly (PPPoE? Account/password? ...?) with whatever is required by your ISP?

Does you ISP require the MAC Address of the modem be registered with them? If so, have you done so?

I appreciate any advice - so thanks to all.

I have checked and triple checked all settings etc with my ISP - who by now thinks I'm a screw or two loose!

I've also been through the ringer with Belkin.

My Speedtouch is a MODEM (only). I then have a Belkin Wireless ROUTER (only).

John asked for an ipconfig /all for a PC "connected directly to the ADSL modem."

Your post # 6 appears to be a connection to a Belkin router.

You will need to connect your computer to the modem to get an ipconfig/all from it.

Today I spent an hour or more on the phone to my ISP.
They have agreed - at last - that my speed has dropped too low and my connection is slow to initiate.
I've had a line-test done in my home - so they are sure it must be a fault at the local exchange.
I could have told them all this - but they would not listen.
Seems as if this is the cause of ALL my problems.
Of course - it will probably be Christmas before any repairs are done - but still...
Meanwhile - thanks to all you guys here for your help.
This is a haven amid the madness.

Because we've gotten so used to it, it may be hard for him, but just think about all the people in the world who can't have it.;)
