'S all right, the world is full of human beans, you were probably distracted by the cute cashier!;)

Ahem , More to the point, I'd say you're good to go, except I didn't see in your posted specs if your drive has 1.5GB (!) free space.
    That is one large install!

    Microsoft® Windows® 98/Me/XP/2000
PC with 500 MHz equivalent or higher processor
    DirectX compatible sound card,
speakers or headphones required for audio
    128 MB of system RAM
    16 MB video card required
1.5 GB available hard disk space
4x speed or faster CD-ROM drive
Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
56 Kbps modem or LAN for online/multiplayer

    ..says Microsoft,
    minimum requirements.

Well, the HD is 40Gb, & after about 16 months of owning this computer, there's still 37.2 Gb Freespace left. :)
    :
Wonder what version of DirectX they're referring to by
DirectX compatible soundcard--or are they saying it should be OK with any DX version ?

    I think you'll be fine.

You can see what you've got DirectX - wise by going to Start>Run, type: dxdiag
and running the test on the Sound tab, the results will appear in the bottom window. ( You can do the same for your video card on the "Display" tab)

If you want you can get the latest DirectX HERE

That should assure you with compatabilty for almost any game, esp. the newer ones.

(but if you've got a 40GB and after 16 months still have 37GB free, I'd wager you haven't installed many games!;)

BTW, I was going to email or send a Private message about changing your thread title, but those options were not available.

You can ask a moderator to edit your thread title by clicking the
'report" icon at the upper right border of your post, and making your request.

Or I'll do it for you, whichever you prefer, just asking if that's what you would like to do...

Thanks for the info re game. I sent a message about changing the thread name just before typing this, so it should be done fairly soon I guess.
Another game I've been looking at is "Age Of Mythology"
I haven't bought many games, my reflexes aren't as fast as some of these games are I don't think :) , so been looking around at games where you can essentially tell the character or characters what you want them to do then see what kind of leader you are :)

AoM should run fine with the specs you have, too.

You might want to check out "Black & White", it got high praise from game sites such as Gamespot, etc.

Quick Question re video on "Impossible Creatures" & "Age Of Mythology"
    :
Here's what 98SE says about the display settings:
    :
    "Super VGA 800x600 on NVIDIA GeForce2 MX100/200"
    :
    "16 Bit High Color"
    :
The Monitor is a 15" (13.5" or so viewable area) ViewMate 5330
    :
    :
Both games should run ok with these settings/monitor?

    Don't see why not.

The game probably will have sound and video options that you can change if you are not satisfied with the way it looks. 16 bit color is a safe bet for most games, some even require it.

Just a suggestion, if you haven't installed the games yet, delete your temp internet files, run scan disk and defrag before you install. This will "tighten up" your system so you should have smooth sailing when you put the games on.

    Have fun!
