I can see the offending entries in Internet Explorer. Unfortunately, HijackThis doesn't show anything for other browsers like Firefox.

Let's start with the following before trying to remove entries manually:

Download, install and run the free version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

Click Update > Check for Updates.

When the definition files have updated, click OK.

Click the Scanner tab > Perform quick scan > Scan.

If infections are found during the scan, the number of infections will be highlighted in red.

When the scan is finished, click Show Results.

Make sure that everything is selected, then click Remove Selected.

If you're prompted to restart to finish the removal process, click Yes.

    Start Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware again.

    Click the Logs tab.

Highlight the scan log entry, then click Open.

When the scan log appears in Notepad, copy and paste it into your next reply.

    ===================================================================
Download, install and run the free version of SUPERAntiSpyware.

    Click Check for Updates.

When the definition files have updated, click Close.

Select Perform Quick Scan and clickon Scan your Computer.

If infections or problems are found during the scan, a list will appear.

When the scan is finished and the scan summary window appears, click OK.

Make sure that everything in the list is selected, then click Next.

If you're prompted to restart to finish the removal process, click Yes.

    Start SUPERAntiSpyware again.

    Click View Scan Logs.

Highlight the scan log entry, then click View Selected Log.

When the scan log appears in Notepad, copy and paste it into your next reply.

    ===================================================================

When finished, please post a new HijackThis log.

I couldn't get it done. I tried ti download malware (as I have in the past) but they snuck me in "regclean" and "aro", two registry cleaners.and no sign of Malware. I uninstalled these two interlopers. Now what is the path, bujttons, etc. to get me to follow your advice in last post? Thanks, sorry if I'm dense.

    americamba,

That's 'cause you haven't clicked on the right download button.

My advice is to stay as far away as you possibly can from Registry Cleaners, Boosters, Optimizers, TuneUp Utilities... You'll only end up crippling programs and the operating system beyond repair! These programs are completely useless and will delete what they don't understand and legitimate files still in use.

Keep in mind that they will always find "errors" to fix, even on a fresh Windows installation!

Why I Don’t Use Registry Cleaners

OK, the log is attached. No malware. I was beginning to distrust my Avast AV program because it always gave me no infections. So I guess that's OK, but I still have the "inbox" intruder. Thanks for your help although if I understand you correctly, there is no way to get it out of Firefox. So we quit here?

I saw this today, simply go to '"Programs & Features" in the "Control Panel" and uninstall the Inbox Toolbar, then go to your browsers and change the homepage to something else.

    Hi Triple 6,
Thanks for weighing in. It has been uninstalled but it keeps coming up. That was my original request.Phantom says he may have a line on it.

Did you change the home page in both Firefox and IE?

    First, disable the UAC.

    For Internet Explorer:

    Run HijackThis again.

Select Do a system scan only.

Put a check mark on the following entries:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {D3D233D5-9F6D-436C-B6C7-E63F77503B30} - (no file)

    O2 - BHO: jZip Toolbar - {1e48c56f-08cd-43aa-a6ef-c1ec891551ab} - C:\PROGRA~2\WIF0E7~1\Datamngr\ToolBar\jzipdtx.dll
