I was just wondering, if both the local area network and wireless network connections are enabled on a machine, will the LAN having a (default) speed of 100 mbps and the WLAN having one of 54 mbps, make the overall connection speed increase? As in maybe 154 mbps all together?

Only if you have load balancing software installed on your PC, and the wireless router also supports load balancing between it's wired and wireless network.

I think you're on a fool's errand here. If you really need faster link speed, invest in some $25 gigabit NIC's.

Thanks for the replies, but I have another question: If I have both LAN and WLAN enabled, which device will programs (a browser for instance) that need to access the network use? Will they choose a random one, one with the highest connection speed, or use both? Thanks.

On a Windows machine, I believe it will default to the wireless connection, if available. I know there's an option to reorder the preferred method of connecting, but unfortunately I don't have administrative access to the computer I'm currently on.

Actually, on a Windows machine, the wired connection will be the first one selected if both have a valid connection.
