I am learning Japanese and I frequently use an Input Method Editor (IME). It's a program that allows me to input Japanese text by typing in their symbols in English, e.g. typing in arigato would give me 有難う or if I spell it out I'd get ありがとう. It's like predictive text in cell phones except that it gives me the symbol(s) that stand for an idea as opposed to typing it out. I was wondering how Input Method Editors work because I thought that it would be an interesting project to create one that typed in a fictional language. Thoughts, suggestions?
