    Hello everyone and happy Easter.

This is just a quick question regarding installing ram into a Lenovo laptop.

I have seen on some forums that it is advised to remove the battery in a laptop before inserting new RAM.

Is this true? being someone who isn't overly tech savvy, I wouldn't be comfortable removing the in built battery and would need a techie to carry this out. If its not necessary, I would be comfortable installing RAM myself.

    Many thanks

    Dan

What is the exact and full model number of your Lenovo laptop? Many laptops have battery packs that can be removed without any disassembly of the laptop's case. One or two locking tabs need to be moved and the battery lifts or slides right out of the bottom of the laptop.

I found the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the E580 here:

    https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/tp_e580_e585_hmm_en.pdf

The battery in that model is not removed to change or add RAM modules. Instead, you need to disable the battery through software. Page 68 of the manual (as shown on bottom of the page, or sheet #74 of 106 as shown in the PDF reader) describes how to disable the battery.

You will need to completely remove the bottom cover to access the memory slots. Other sections of the manual explain how to remove the cover and replace or add memory.

    thank you!

hmm it would seem that I might damage my laptop If I'm not careful.

maybe a techie would be a good idea for peace of mind.

    Thank you for your help!

    Kind regards,

    Dan
