My brother-in-law recently was given a old compaq 486, because the previous owner was afraid of copyright violations, win 95 was removed from the system. He has a startup floppy and his own copy of win 95, however he is at a loss as how to install the os, when he boots from the floppy he gets the A:\ prompt. what next ? :) I have never had to install a OS, so please help, he wants the computer for his wife to use, and money is tight....thanks...Rhett

Have him boot the pc with a win98 startup disk, choose with cdrom support. this will add a ram drive so his cdrom drive will change by one letter, if it was d, it will now be e.
Go to e:

type setup

You may want to have him format the hard disk, depends on what's on it now, if anything.
