I cannot seem to get past the Compliance check while installing Win 98 on my laptop. I have IBM Thinkpad that basically has no OS at all and am trying to install one. What might I do to resolve this glitch so that I may install an OS? A friend FDISK/FORMAT the hard drive and now I cannot seem to get an OS on it. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks a million,
    Carla

Sounds like you are trying to install a Upgrade version of Win98.

You must have a copy of the previous version of Windows on CD-ROM or on floppy disks to put in the drive when setup asks for it, to get past the compliance-check procedure or use a Win98 Full version cd.

I have a booklet that came with this 98SE disk that says Getting Started Microsoft Windows 98 second edition as well as the product key that is on the front by the upc code. BTW, the product key nor the disk work and this is to be for distribution with a new pc..meaning no operating system as of yet. I am stumped...anymore info? I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks again,
    Carla K
