Installed PrintShip and WordPerfect have stopped working. I purchased new, upgraded WP but had to shut down security to try to install and still wouldn't, receiving Setup.exe has stopped working. Going on 3 weeks, all documents for past 30 years in WP so I'm out of business until this is fixed. Reinstalled PS, and it installs but won't load. Have Avast internet security, cancelled and installed Webroot. Cleaned registry with CCleaner. Still nothing. Windows 10

Which version of WordPerfect are you trying to install? Did you run the installer as Administrator? Are you doing the installation using an account with Administrator rights? I'm guessing it was just a small typo and you meant Print Shop. Is it one of these?

I also thought it was a typo, but there's actually a program called Print-Ship.

It is WordPerfect 8x Professional. And the other program is Printshop Professional v 3.5. As far as I know I'm trying to install as an administrator. I feel the problem with installation might have something to do with the previous WordPerfect or Printshop programs that were already installed that have been corrupted.

RE: The installed programs: The PS won't load, even though I've re-installed it from the original disk. The WP stopped letting me save a project. So I purchased the new WP Office 8x Professional to replace it and haven't been able to load it. I keep getting setup.exe has stopped working.

My underlying concern is what is corrupting my installed programs.

If they're corrupt, that could certainly cause an issue with re-installation. I'm assuming you've tried to uninstall the older copies of WordPerfect and PrintShop and this didn't work, correct? If so, I've had some success with running Revo Uninstaller on machines with corrupted installs, wherein it will dig into the Registry and file structure to remove vestiges of these programs.

Before doing all this, however, have you checked your restore points on the PC to see how far they go back? It might be possible to use one of these restore points to get your PC back to where these programs were running properly, but that's not an absolute guarantee.

Do other programs work on the computer, or do all previously installed programs have problems

Have you enabled the ransomware protection ( folder access) in W10 security centre. That causes these sorts of problems

I don't know if I have or haven't enabled ransomware. But, yes, there have been problems with other programs but since PS and WP are the ones I use most often I haven't noted big problems with the others. And where is W10 security center?

open defender security settings, select virus & threat protection the little shield in the left bar, select virus& threat protection settings. Turn off controlled folder access if it has been turned on

That feature is only supposed to be enabled when using Windows Defender as your AV, but I have seen cases where it was switched on when Defender was used, but wasn't turned off when a 3rd party AV or security suite like Avast or Webroot was installed.

If other programs are affected, I would think you might have a bigger problem

I think we need to dig a bit deeper
First step:

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop or downloads folder.

Note: You need to download and run the 64 bit version

  • Right click to run as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from.
  • Please copy and paste log back here.
  • The first time the tool is run it generates another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory/folder/place as FRST.exe/FRST64.exe). Please also paste that along with the FRST.txt into your reply.
