I know I should leave a good thing alone but in the process of Word Viewer Woes(WVW) as seen in a thread further down below, I came across the download viewr 2000 @ microsoft . To hard to resist in an effort to rid of viewr 97... when it came to opening it to install. I was prompted with:
"The window installer service on your system is too low it must be 1.10.0.0 or higher to apply this update"
How can it be when I have office 2000?
Is there a level bar to installer I can swing to the right to raise the specs. ?

I thank you too much .

The Windows Installer is not a part of Word 2000. There are updates on the Microsoft site for the installer, and it comes with lots of newer software packages. The viewer was probably created well after Office 2000, perhaps they've used a newer package.

Thanks Eddie, John, but I came across "choose from the following three" to redistribute installer 2.0 version for OS win 98 2nd:

    Files in this Download
Below are links to the separate files available for this download.
    File Name:
    File Size
    InstMsiA.exe <<<<<<<--------- Do I choose this one
    1670 KB
    License.txt <<<<<<<---------- This one
    13 KB
Redist.txt <<<<<<<---------- or this one
    2 KB

P.S. I've wondered about choosing "Open & Run from its location" or choosing "Save this program to disk".
I'm thinking the latter takes up unneccesary disk space for the same outcome. NO?

    Okay

InstMsiA.exe is the actual installer. The other two are a ReadMe, which will explaing what its all about, and the new features. You may want to Save that one, as it could be very relevent.
The other looks like it explains how to redistribute the file, say if you're an Admin.

As to what to download as, I used to opt for Save file as, if its a large file, in case I get a lost connection. But that was with Dialup.

You can use the Open & Run from location, which will download the install it, all in one go. You may want to download the ReadMe first.

    Eddie,

No use yet...I downloaded the installer 2.0 but when it came to run program instead of a pop up windows window which read "The window installer service on your system is too low it must be 1.10.0.0 or higher to apply this update" .....I now get "The expected version of the product uas not found on your system" and would not proceed....Its like being treated as if I was running an Apple computer.
I bought my computer in Feb. 2000 already programed with Word Perfect Office 2000 why couldn't I update it to.........The Word 2000 Update: April 25, 2002 which upon offers you the highest levels of performance and security available for Microsoft Word. This update is part of Microsoft's continued effort to provide the latest product updates to customers.

You can't apply M$ word updates to Coral word perfect. They are different programs made by different manufacturers

You already have the only viewer from M$ that you need . It opens any M$ word doc except those made in word 2002/Xp for which there is no viewer, but most will open in the viewer you have anyway. Only a very very few docs will have used the extras that are in word XP and I would totally ignore them

You can probably get similar updates from the coral wordperfect site, though I understand WP hasn't got the same bugs as M$word and doesn't need as many updates
