Im setting up an old computer to give to a friend and Im having trouble installing Windows 98.

Basic specs are:

AMD 266
32MB RAM
1.2Gb HDD

(Yeah I know its pants :D )

Ive formatted the HDD and basically installed Windows...then when it gets to the first restart it comes up with the basic stuff e.g. memory test etc...

then I hit this :

Please input name of Command file set (eg C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND.COM)
C>

No matter what I type there it wont accept it and it wont go any further than that...Ive tried booting in safe mode etc but it keeps coming back to that.

Is it a problem with the machine specs or something simple??

Any help is much appreciated :)

Something simple...how did you install Windows because it looks like the hard drive never got the system files copied to it? Did you run the setup from the CD?

I formatted the HDD and changed drive to E: (the CD drive) and just typed SETUP...it went thru all the usual asking what components I wanted to install and copying the files over etc.

MAke a bootable disk and boot to that. Once at the A:> prompt, type in sys C:

That should put all of the system files on your C: drive, command. com included.
