I am having tons of trouble with Win ME that I never had running Win 98SE.

Can I reinstall Win 98SE without formatting the hard drive?

Is there a ME uninstall that will bring me back to 98SE?

Maybe, was this an upgrade of the os, or was it a clean install of ME? If you upgraded and checked the box to save system files, then you should be able to remove ME from control panel > add / remove programs. If this was a clean install of ME then I think you will need to format and reinstall.
Either way I think you will be better off if you do a clean install of win98. By the time an os has been upgraded then removed you will have a lot of junk on your HD.

You could always try to install win 98 without
formatting. Make sure you install in a different
folder other than windows. You'll still need to
reinstall your software, but the install shouldn't
overwrite any files- though a backup is always
advisable

Check out the site. There are 3 threads asking
about the same as your question. One had a
ms knowledge site. Q193902
It pertains to reinstall win98 but might be worth
a try for you. If it doesn't work you can always
install with a format first.
