I have a few questions about removing and installing a Athlon processor/heatsink/fan.

    1. Can I remove the old Athlon xp2000 proc/heatsink/fan as one unit without taking them apart? I think I can get at the socket lever and it will clear the heatsink clip..

    2. Can I assemble the new Athlon XP2600 proc/heatsink/fan together BEFORE installing it in the socket? Doing this would be easier than trying to do it in the confines of the case.

    3. Do heatsink/fans come with a tube of "insulating compound" (whatever it's called)? That way I don't have to buy a seperate tube.

    Any advice would be apreciated.

    1. Yes
    2. Yes I believe the lever clears
    3. Did you buy a retail CPU meaning it comes with the AMD heat sink and fan?
These usually already have a heat sink pad or compound applied.

Thanks for the advice and help. I have not bought the proc/heatsink/fan yet. I will be shortly though. I probably will be buying a retail box.
