ok so i had a belkin surf n300 wireless router. it worked perfectly when i connected the ethernet from the modem to the router for use with my laptop

i just moved back to my dad's and he has a desktop hooked up to the modem (ethernet from modem to tower)..i cannot get the router to work. i have the ethernet cord and router cord which came with the router. i tried ethernet cord on modem/ethernet and router cord on router/router cord on desktop which didn't work...then i tried router cord in ethernet spot on modem/ethernet and router cord on router/ethernet cord on desktop...which didn't work either...whenever i undid the ethernet cord from either the modem or desktop, i had no internet

i don't know what cord to put where :(

i did this thing cuz people usually post these...please help! thanks!

Reset the router to factory default settings. Unplug the modem and router and shut down your computer(s).

Connect modem to router WAN (Modem, Internet) port. Connect computer to router LAN port.

Plug in modem. After it settles plug in router. Boot computer. You should now have internet access, and can configure the wireless part of the router and connect additional computers.
