I received an old Sony Vaio PCG C1X laptop without a cd rom. I'm trying to install a new one, but windows 98 doesn't recognize it. It seems I need to install the new software using the old CD Rom first. Obviously I can't do this because I don't have the old CD Rom. Does anyone know a way around this?

What's the make and model of the new drive? You may be able to download what you need at the manufacturers site.

Does your laptop have a USB port? If so you could download the drivers to a pen-drive (memory stick) and load them from there.
