I just bought a Notebook PC in Japan and it came with Japanese Windows XP Home Edition. I would like to install English Windows XP on the PC. I don't need the Japanese version.

I have 2 English Windows XP CDs: Home upgrade and Home OEM.

How can I install the English version on to the PC with Japanese version of Windows XP Home edition?

Is it also possible to maintain the Japanese version and operate with the English version? If yes, how can it be done? The PC has 2 HDDs: C and D.

I will very much appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.

Usually the OEM cds come with a computer and cannot be installed on another computer.

I see. I undertood there are two types: one which comes with the computer and one which are sold separately with 'untested piece of hardware'. That was what I was made to believe. Unless otherwise.......I was deceived??

Take a look at the OEM cd and see if it is a recovery cd. If it is, I believe that you will find that it is not bootable. I have a Dell computer with XP Home OEM cd, and another Dell Computer with XP Pro. Neither cd is bootable.

The CDS that are sold separately via Microsoft, CompUSA, etc. are bootable.

If I am wrong, I'm sure someone will be along to correct me :D

I should say I am expecting the CD shortly, it is in the mail. The seller described it as ....Microsoft Windows XP Home SP2, Full w/Legal COA. I hope that it is the right one. Thanks a lot, I have learnt something
