Your friend's computer has both a hard drive and a CD-ROM drive connected to one IDE controller. She wants to install a second hard drive. Is any additional hardware needed? If so, what hardware is needed, and why? How do you explain to her how to add the additional hard drive?

well usually there are 2 ide channels or sockets if you will on the mobo prim ide and sec ide, you will want the 2 hdd on the prim ide with your boot hdd set to master at the end of the ribbon cable and the other hdd set to slave on the middle connector, then install the cdrom on the sec ide set to master at the end of the ribbon cable, make sure you use a 80wire ide cable for the hdd, its still 40pin but has 40 extra wire as shielding i beleive. If your mobo supports cable select cs you can just set hdds to cs, but i'm old fashion and like the master/slave arrangement.
