Hi plankman, and welcome to TSG.

It is possible that the hardware in your laptop is not compatible with Windows XP. What is the name of the manufacturer and the full model number of your laptop?

Are you trying to replace Windows 10 with Windows XP or trying to set up a dual boot system?

Are you trying to install a full retail version of Windows XP or some other version?

What is the error message you are getting?

If your laptop has 3rd generation or older hardware, installing Windows XP SP3 32-bit should n0t be a problem.

If your laptop originally came with Windows 10 64-bit, it likely has 6th generation or newer hardware.

If you provide its brand name and complete model number(as Chuck advised you to do), it will be easier to address your issue.

Besides the model name and model number of that Dell laptop, also advise us what the 7-character "service tag" number on it is.
That will allow us to confirm what hardware it came with.

Why are you wanting to install Windows XP SP3 32-bit in it?
Your laptop's modern hardware is likely going to prevent it from being installed.
