I'm a newbie here, and this looks like a great forum! I have a question about adding a SATA RAID to my system that is already working without any SATA drives.

It is an Asus K8U-X mobo with a SCSI adapter card and SCSI boot drive. I would like to add two SATA drives using the onboard RAID-1 option with the mobo. The user guide says I need to reinstall XP in order to provide the drivers. Is this the only way? I'd like to just add them as mirrored, secondary drives. The SCSI drive will stay the main boot drive.

Edit: I found a readme file on my mobo driver CD that says I can just install it like any other piece of hardware. That should work. Nevermind!

Gee, you answered your own question, and the answer is indeed correct. You don't need to reinstall Windows, even if you want to put your boot drive on the RAID array. You can use something like Acronis True Image to move the image to the RAID array after installing the RAID drivers while booted from the IDE configuration. :)
