and along those same lines... I actually previously tried to install Windows ME (got the disk from my husband) but he has a Dell and this is a Compaq. But should I try to do that instead?

Delete the essential files from top tree (C:\) directory, i.e. msdos.sys, etc... (set all files' attributes to read)

    Then try and install Windows98.

That is how I did the trick.

I'm a novice- as I'm sure you can tell.
    Which files do I delete?

Hmm, I am currently at work running Windows NT workstation, I'm not sure which second file to delete,

    I'm assuming:

    Msdos.sys,
    io.sys
    command.com (Dunno about this?)

Anyone up for second opinion before committing this advice?

Should I try the first two and then run the 98 disk and see if that works?
