I was able to download free windows 10 on my desktop that had win 7.

Now Will I be able to make a clean windows 10 install instead of a restore ??

Yes, you can make a clean install. Just Run the MS Media Creation Tool. It will Generate a Windows setup DVD or USB memory stick. Boot with that and choose Custom Install. Then delete all partitions and let it proceed with the free space.

Thank you very much. I tried MS MEDIA CREATION TOOL and it downloaded windows 10 and then no further instructions, so I don't know if I got a new clean install or not. I did not see where it generated a window DVD setup or memory stick. It downloaded windows 10 which took a very long time , then nothing.

Trying again with MEDIA CREATION tool. It is in the process of downloading win 10 now ,but see no way to save it into a drive. I have an external hard drive with plenty of space

I have tried three times now to get me a clean windows 10 install. How is the old install removed or replaced ?? Is that done when the partition are removed.
Sorry I am easily confused , but I am not giving up.

That sure was of great help what you sent me on getting a clean windows 10. I have been thinking about it at night when I am lying in bed and in the morning as I try to wake up . It has been daunting for quite a while, But now I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel. So I will try again. The only thing I am not sure about now is how to delete the partitions.

Finally got it downloaded on a flash drive. Now do I have to format my hard drive or just delete all partitions before I install the new windows 10 ??

Did you download the creation tool to a flash drive or did you use the creation tool on a computer to make the flash drive a bootable device with the Windows installer on it?

If you created a bootable installer flash drive, you should be able to boot from it and have the option to format the hard drive, losing all current data on the hard drive, and do a clean install of Windows.

I've merged your two threads together. Please do not start more than one for the same issue.
