I do not want Instant Messenger to start up when I log on to my computer.
I have tried taking checkmark out of msconfig startup and it keeps putting it back in.
I have gone to add remove programs, gone into components and took the checkmark out of windows messenger and still it opens. Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Have you tried looking under Options in instant Messenger itself?

You have to uncheck it in the Instant Messenger options. From the window that has your contact list.

Laura MJ is right ,go to MSN Messenger and under Tools/Options,click the "General" tab, and uncheck the very first box "Automatically run Messenger when I log on to Windows",and while you are there uncheck the next option too,"Allow automatic sign in when connected to the internet"
