Someone has recently told me that intel is better than amd. Is that true?

I've almost come to the conclusion that Intel vs. AMD is like Ford vs. Chevy, or whatever. But generally you do get more for your money with AMD. Personally I'd buy an Athlon over a P4.

They have their tradeoffs. Intel processors tend to run cooler, and AMD processors tend to run cheaper. :)

AMD processors are certainly run hotter than Intel processors (of equal speed), and because of this, they require heavy duty cooling fans, which may be a bit noisier - but AMD processors crunch numbers a heck of a lot faster than Intel.

Example - I have an AMD XP 1600+, which actually clocks at about 1400 MHz/sec which does a [email protected] unit in 4 to 4 1/2 hours. I have a similar computer with an 1800 MHz/sec Intel (not a Celeron) which does the same [email protected] unit at an average speed of 1 every 6 to 7 hours. about 70% of the speed of the (supposedly) slower machine. My next build will be an AMD.
