should work if you have an agp slot on your motherboard. The 810 chipset is fairly new so it should be agp 2.0. Check your motherboard for an agp slot. Will be the top slot closest to the processor, brown in color, set back a little farther from the edge of the motherboard than the pci slots.

    Aopen Geforce 2 MX400 64Mb AGP

Depends what you intend to do with it? I mean do you want to do play 3d games? CAD , as in design.. I will assume that you are a casual user with some 3D games... Then for under $100 is the Aopen Geforce 2 MX 64 Mb Agp.

look in the compaq manual and will see what kind of RAM it will fit ( as in PC 100 , PC 133 ,) and how big ( as in 128 Megs, 64 etc..). When you say "the video card lags" you mean it looks " choppy"? If that is the case go ahead and make your desktop resolution at 800x600 and 16 bit and the games will have the same resolution . If you play any Open GL ( Quake3 , Half-Life ) then "play" with the video options ( as in billinear, no antialias ..)

here's a sight that I bought my card from, An Nvidia Mx 400 64 Mb for $59. they have several others for more and less. I've bought several things from them and they've always been a stand up company. http://www.pcafterhours.com.
