in Gigabyte bios under CPU features theres feature that allows the CPU to overclock itself when its under load..

    C.I.A.2 its called

    you can set:
    DISABLED
    CRUISE
    SPORTS
    RACING
    FULL THROTTLE

now I set Sports and Windows crashed shortly after loading... a reboot worked... then it crashed after rebooting again... the screen just went all blue... at one point I got a BSOD which mentioned hardware failure

I disabled it and all is fine...

is there something I have missed out in the options..?

    thanks

    its gone now...

    was a friends PC...

    Core-i7 / 1600Mhz 4Gb RAM

I think it adjust the bus speeds which in case of Core-i7 is not good as they dont use regular FSB, they use QuickPath Interconnect - changing bus speeds affects memory aswell and maybe thats why it was crashing the system
