Intermittent and Variable Washer/Dryer speeds

    Im looking to buy a new washer and dryer but i have no idea what the differences between Intermittent and Variable speeds are. could somebody shed some light?

    Intermittent will be "on" and "off" cycles, variable will be "slow to fast"

    So a wash cycle may stop and start on intermittent, or vary from slow to fast (or medium etc) on variable?
