Every time I open My Computer and try to explore one of my drives the following message appears:

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

If the problem persists, contact the program vendor

Then when I press close another message appears:

There was an internal error in and one of the windows you were operating will be closed. It is recommended to save all your work, close all programs, and restart your computer.

How can I get past this problem, or do I have to restore my computer?

    Thanks for your help

First, can you give us a copy/paste of a HijackThis Scanlog, as described here:

Then, after doing that, let us know whether the same problem occurs in Safe Mode, or if you run msconfig and temporarily uncheck the Startup group on the general page.

To start in Safe Mode, press and hold the ctrl key promptly on startup to see the boot menu and select Safe Mode.
