I seem to recall reading somewhere a while back that there are kits available to convert an internal IDE hard drive to an external drive that connects via USB. Does anyone know anything about this?
Seen them over at Tiger Direct.. Good for a older drive to move files back and forth. But, I think I prefer a CD-burner for this purpose, or a thumbdrive. http://www.tigerdirect.com
The USB 2.0 IDE cases are readily available, they start at about $45 on Pricewatch. I've been using them for several years, they're the Cat's Meow for backups and data transport. I have a pair of 120gig drives in USB 2.0 cabinets, and I take them on the road regularly.
This is going to sound like a dumb question but something confused me. Is the hard drive in my desktop PC 3.5" or 5.25"? I thought it was 3.5" but one of the items at Tiger Direct specifies 5.25".
To be honest, I just bought a couple of different models that looked nice and were cheap, they've worked flawlessly for me. Most of these are "generic" brands anyway. Here's one of the ones I use here, the exact model is the 3rd one down the page. USB 2.0 case
