I have a problem with a second computer connecting to the internet. I have had my adapter checked and was told it was ok. I have ran the second computer directly into the dsl connection and it still will not allow me to connect to the internet. The only error message I have received is at boot up and it says SymSPort.exe error has occured and needs to close. any suggestions

Either uninstall the norton firewall then reinstall it or just remove it for the time being. Its ill performing and causing the trouble.

I did the uninstall and then the reboot but the problem has not gone away. when I try and log onto the internet it says it cannot connect to the server. I tried both direct connect and wireless and get same message.

loaded the WinsockXPFix but I still get a message at the bottom when trying to open the internet that it cannot locate server. I have contacted both Verizon who has my DSL account and Linksys which is my wireless adapter. I tried to do a direct connect but still get same message

Check in your connection settings. It almost sounds like its looking for a proxy server.
