Make sure you have the latest wireless driver (not sure if we posted that before).

Make sure MAC Address filtering (Access Control) is not enabled on the router.

On the router turn encryption off and see if you can connect that way.

I've taken off the encryption and there's no change. I'm not sure hoe to change the MAC settings on the router and as far as the internet is concerned my driver from 2008 is more up to date than any I get when I google a Realtek RTL8185 driver list. There don't seem to be any drivers to roll back to either and when the computer tries to search for a more up to date driver it cannot find any.

I think that the adapter may be defective. Just thought of one more thing to check--the wireless mode on the router vs. whatever the adapter supports. For example, the router may be in 'n only' mode, but the adapter only supports b and g.

Sorry to break it to you guys but I seem to have fixed it. I uninstalled and then reinstalled my adapter and it seems fine now. Thanks for all your help. Just gotta solve the issue with my blue screen and something to do with IRQLs.

Do you mean a physical uninstall/re-install or device manager uninstall as I suggested in post #8
Thanks for the feedback.
