Windows Vista is showing that its connected to the internet, but when I try to open firefox it says its unable to connect: cant establish a connection to the server. it does this for every website i try. internet explorer is doing the same thing. my connection is perfectly fine. ive tried turning off firewall, restarting my computer, and ive scanned my computer multiple times and havent found a virus. please help. i have a laptop and its not connected to a proxy.

You might have some sort of Malware that has setup a proxy on the computer, or it might just be a simple setting.

Open IE > File > Make sure "Work Offline" is not checked.

Open IE > Tools > Internet Options > Connection > Lan Settings > Make sure the only thing checked is "Automaticly detect settings". Apply/ok, then close and reopen the browser.
