WEll my problem stems from trying to get online with a LAN. SOmething blocks me from
being able to get connected. Windows98se,RealTek LAN card,2gig CPU,ASUS motherboard. I'm not trying to DIALup, but I get the connection wizard error message.
    Any other Ideas???
    THANKS!

To begin with, are firewalls involved? If so, are they set to allow the right accesses?

I checked the firewalls and it all seems OK. My question now is: i found in my system
devices in DEVICE Manager where my PCI Bus is flagged telling me that the PCI.VXD
is reporting 2 PCI.VXD's and could not load the driver. It says that I must update the BIOS. Now could this cause my problem with being unable to connect to the internet?

Looks, to me, like you have driver conflicts.

It might be best to uninstall your modem, in Device manager, reboot and reinstall it.
