Can you tell me if I need both of these connections?

In Network Connections I am connected using the following, is this correct, or can I turn one of them off?

I am using a Netgear ADSL Modem Router DG834v2

Local Area Connection, connected using "Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast"

1394 Connection, connected using "1394 Net Adapter"

If you're not using "firewire" you can try to turn off the 1394 Connection. Nobody seems to know why it always says "connected." Why worry about it?
