I have a problem that I do not know how to fix. My system is windows xp pro, it is very slow and unresponsive. It takes awhile to get the control panel to respond and the icon "Network Connections" does not want to open. It takes a few min. then it finally shows no connections. When I try to set up a connection I get the error:

"an exception occurred while trying to run "netshell.dll,STARTNCW"

I tried doing "regsvr32 netshell.dll" with start run and it said:

"Load Library("Netshell.dll") Failed- The specific Module could not be found.

The file "netshell.dll" is in the system 32 folder and in a folder dealing to Service Pack 2.

I tried doing a chkdsk and it didnt catch anything. I also ran spy ware and anti virus software on the drive and nothing came up.

    I just did start run:

    regsvr32 netshell.dll
    regsvr32 netcfgx.dll
    regsvr32 netman.dll

These things errored out. So i ran that "sfc /scannow" and it did its thing and asked for the windows disk and so i put it in (with sp2). I sat there it finished, and nothing happened so i restarted after like 10min.

I then did all of these again:

    regsvr32 netshell.dll
    regsvr32 netcfgx.dll
    regsvr32 netman.dll

And go the error "the specific module cannot be found".

So now what can i do to resolve this? Any Suggestions?

That didnt work. System Restore said:

"System Restore is unable to protect your computer. Please restart your computer, then re-run System Restore."

When I go to "my computer" and go to properties there is no System Restore tab in there anymore. I have no clue where it went.

Well, I asume you tried system restore in safe mode, right? If not, you should do this now.

My other suggestion is open Task Manager (Alt-Ctrl-Del) and under processes tab look for a process that's using a lot of the CPU (you'll see the changing percentage of CPU usage) or a lot of memory.

Oh I tried it in both, received the same error in safe mode and in normal windows.

I mean windows itself opens and logs in fine, there are no other noticeable problems other then I cant access the net.

I would re-install xp but i cant quiet find my windows case I have the cd but not the key for windows.

If I don't have some of the drivers for some the hardware can I find those on the system and copy them to a cd as well?

If this is a brand name computer, then look on their site, they usually have a driver download section under support.
