Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

    Type the following command:

    IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

    [Press ENTER after tle command.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I'm guessing this is not your network, so suggest that your next step is to contact the network administrator or support.

The same lan connection works fine on other laptops of my friends. Would reinstalling Windows or the LAN drivers fix this?

..or is there any other commands to work with in CMD?

What did the network administrator or support staff advise you?

The LAN connection is taken from a HUB. That same LAN connection works on other laptops but not on mine and the same connection put on another HUB works fine on my laptop. Service providers are pretty much confused and so I had to take your help. Its my university internet connection.

Can you please suggest me a way to reset the name of the network. Its actually KMHF2R whereas it shows Network12 on my laptop.

Then I would say that you are trying to connect to the wrong network.
It this by wire or WiFi?

Answer Terry's question about the IT Admin?

The IT guy told me that my computer is configured incorrectly and I am not able to figure it out. Its a wired connection. The SSID of the wired connection is KMHF2R but it shows Network 12 on my laptop. But if I connect the same wire to a different laptop, the connection works and has internet access and also shows the correct SSID. Quite confusing.

Do you mean the sorta meaningless name in Network Connections? If so, you can right click on it and select 'Rename.' But I don't know anything about a "reset."

Then connect that "wire" (ethernet cable?) to a different laptop and, if it is running Windows, show an ipconfig /all as I requested in post # 2
