First post here, needing some real help. I've been racking my brain on my brothers computer. It's a Gateway with Vista on it.

The problem and it's symptoms are as follows:

Internet connectivity is paradoxical. The "Network and Sharing Center" says that internet IS connected and working. Mozilla Firefox and IE tell me it's not and will not access any web sites, whether through regular urls or IP addresses.

I /can/ ping websites and IP addresses with the command prompt. They return back with success.

I /can not/ log into the router through FF or IE. Neither can find the router - though pinging it is successful.

Other computers on the same network (such as the one I'm using to type this message) DO WORK.

Other computers on the same network CAN log into the router, but no changes I've made seem to be doing anything to fix the issue. Any Ideas?

If I open the Network and Sharing Center, I CAN see other computers on the network. As before, it reports that there are no problems.

    I have tried:
    - Resetting the router and the modem.
    - Rebooting the router, modem, and PC.
    - Restoring the Hosts to default.
    - Clearing/Restoring the TCP/IP stacks.
    - Clearing/Restoring Winsock.

    I'm at a standstill. I've tried everything I can think of, and have learned new fixes along the way. In fact, the last two fixes, I've never even heard of - and I thought I knew this kind of stuff really well! Nothing is working, and it's particularly frustrating because everyone over on my end seems to think I'm a computer genius and should be able to fix this in a heartbeat >.<;

Any help - or even suggestions on other things to try - would be highly, highly appreciated.

    -----------------------
    Other tidbits of info:

    - This is a Desktop computer. Gateway DX4200-09 (There have been few, if any hardware modifications)
    - Windows Vista Home Premium SP2.
    - The Ethernet cable has been tested and works fine.
    - The wall mount plug has been tested and works fine.
    - The NIC has been tested and works fine (presumably).
    - This problem has been going on for about 2-4 weeks.

Well...I forgot to mention I've tried that already.

Those auto-diag-and-repair come back and tell me that there are no problems, and that if I suspect there are further problems (Which I do) to consult microsoft tech help (which I did), which offered no satisfactory solutions =/

ok, i am not to hot on this as have never had a problem so you will be asked for a ipconfig paste so to speed things up a bit

start type cmd right click it run as admin then when you have that type ipconfig/all high light copy that back here

also check no anti virus blocking web access / firewall third part ones especially

Turned off firewalls and all that junk a while ago, but they didn't seem to be making a difference. Sorry I didn't think about posting the readout earlier. :p Thanks for your help - I do appreciate it. It's just that it's nearly 4 AM and I'm a bit cranky. Hahaha :p

    Happy Holidays? :p

I would Uninstall MyWebSearch to start

download Malwarebytes Free Version Click Here to your desktop.
    • Then double click on the file you have just download and install.
    • Run it and click on the Update tab and get the Updates.
    • Run a Quick Scan on all drives, this will take awhile please be patient.
    • Check everything it finds and Remove Selected.
    • It may need to reboot to complete the removal say Yes.
    • A log file will open in Notepad please Copy & Paste it in your next post.
    • You can access the log file by clicking on the Logs tab.
    • Please make sure you only post the recent one.

As a log expert will want to see it
