The internet works fine, except for when I visit the two sites I visit the most: Myspace, and Facebook. After type the address in the address bar, it will go to the home page of that particular site and then vanish. I have had music playing on another tab, and can still hear the songs after the page has disappeared from the screen. It just returns me back the desktop. Please for the love of God and everything that is beautiful in this world, dont send me advice that is complicated for a simple earthling that believes that technology works by magic. Help me with my dilemma. But make the steps fairly simply. Please and thank-you.

Is it possible that you are using the laptop in work and that those social interaction sites are blocked?

Have you tried the laptop on another Internet connection to see if can access these sites?

Go somewhere else where there is an internet connection that you can use: neighbor's house, office, school, library, internet cafe.... anywhere but where you are when things unravel

Which operating system does your computer run?
Usually it's Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Mac OSX? It would be nice to know more, e.g., XP Home or XP Professional, or Vista Home, Vista Home Premium, and so on....

Which web browser are you using? Which version?
If you don't know, the web browser is probably either
    • Internet Explorer (Windows)
    • FireFox (Linux)
    • Safari (one of those fruity-puters)
There are others, but usually advanced users use those other ones.

To find the web browser's product name and version:
    • In Windows - in the web browser's menu bar (usually at the top of the window in which the browser is running, find the help button; click on that, then click on "About". That will tell you the product name and version.
    • On a mac fruity-puter, The process is the same except that you may have to click on more than 1 "Help" button

I tried taking off the pop-up blocker but it didnt have any effect whatsoever.

What site does it bring you to?

Sounds like you may have spyware/malware/adware redirecting your browser.

I have windows xp, and internet explorer. I thought eventually the problem would subside, but it is very persistant. Would my firewall have anything to do with this?

Try changing your browser. Download anyone of Firefox, Opera, Safari or Chrome and see if you can access the problem sites. You will then know whether it is something unique to the browser or your pc / internet connection. Alternatively try accessing the problem sites through a public proxy server, see if you can get through that way.
