Hi,

This is my first post and i was just wondering if anyone could help me out? A week or so ago, i decided it was time to reformat my PC (running windows XP SP2) and reset everything. I was previously running a wireless connection via a wireless card that i added, and could also connect via ethernet, no problems. However, since the reformat i have all of a sudden not been able to connect to the internet at all on this computer although it still works for my other computers and i have installed all the original drivers.

I have followed advice i found on other threads about running the commands:

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log
but when i run the IPv4, it says the command cannot be found, and the IPv6 is not installed. So i do not know what else to try...

When i try to repair the connection through the windows tool, it cannot aquire a IP address.

Thanks.

If the original chipset and networking drivers are not working for you look for updated ones on your PC manufacturer's web site.

Please show with attempted wireless and ethernet connections (at the same time is OK) ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

----------------------------------

The following repairs will probably work better for you than the Vista ones you found. :)

(From a JohnWill post)

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2 or SP3.

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

I have also just reconnected the ethernet to see whether that now works, but have the same problem as before with this... It says it is connected to the LAN at 100Mbps, but i still have no internet.

Thanks.

Please confirm that you have downloaded and installed the latest chipset and networking drivers.

The wireless problem could be wireless interference (e.g., 2.4 GHz cordless phone or another network on the same or close channel) or multiple wireless utilities running.

Please show an ipconfig /all for the ethernet connection.
