My wifi recently stopped working on my laptop and I'm not sure why. The internet only works if it's connected to an Ethernet cable. What can I do to fix this?

I recently restored my laptop to it's original factory system and that's when the wifi stopped working completely. Also, it's not a home problem because the wifi doesn't work anywhere.

    First Name:
Go to Control Panel - Device Manager.

    Expand the Network Adapters heading.

What are the exact names listed in that heading?

Are there any entries in the Device Manager that have a yellow ? or yellow ! or red X next to them.

If there is, advise what their exact names are.

What's the model name and complete model number of that HP laptop?

If you don't know for sure, advise what the product number(P/N) and/or model number(M/N) on the sticker is.

If you did not use the installation disc/setup that came with the computer, you probably don't have the driver installed. If what Flavalle's suggestion shows up with an yellow ! in the Other Devices section then that would be your cause.

You can go to http://support.hp.com and use the automatic detection of your computer to find the correct drivers.
