It doesn't matter which browser you use. There's no need to pay for software to download files.

Are you using 56K dial-up or some other slow connection?

Internet Download Manager claims to increase download speeds by up to 5 times.

Depending on which plan you have, Verizon FIOS determines what your computer's download speed is.

No third-party software can "magically" increase it.

    Also stay away from JDownloader.

The primary use of such tools is to queue files to be downloaded. The main use for me is to queue files to be downloaded at a later time. Most tools also support resume. So in most cases, you can stop the download at any time and resume where you left off later. In some cases, they can increase the speed at which a file downloads, but that is not the norm. And no tool can increase the download speed faster than your internet connection supports.

And I use JD daily without issue. I've been using it since version 1. I don't know any reason to "stay away" from it.

Google chrome does NOT like a lot of third party addins. They need to be approved by Google to really work.

I have been using the internet since the earl 1990's and never needed a download manager and I still see no need in them.

The only time I used any sort of download manager was when I was on dialup. That was 11 years ago. Since broadband, the browsers handle downloads without any help.

I'm using internet download manager since years.
It is more advantage on resuming broken downloads. Chrome and Firefox (my browsers) is failing to do so in many times.
I'm using a mobile broad band and some times break the connections and slow due to signal issues.
Internet Download Manager is useful on such occasions.

It could mange also to watch videos, movies when they downloading (before to complete the download)
