Internet dumps out to Desktop for no reason

    I have an intermittent problem where I may be on the internet or e-mail and for no reason I am dumped out of the internet back to the desktop. My internet connection is not the problem as I always have a strong connection. I am running XP with Verizon/MSN Premium as my browser.
