Hi there,

I'm using Windows 98 and the most current version of Internet Explorer. Quite frequently, it would take minutes to browse from one page to another or at other times, I would just get a "Page Cannot Be Displayed" error. Also sometimes I have troubles with the vertical scrollbar.

Is it possible to uninstall Internet Explorer? If so, how? I've already tried to "repair" it, but it doesn't work nor does reinstalling. Would it be okay to install an older version over the current version?

I've already established with my Internet service provider that it's an issue with Internet Explorer, not my actual connection. I've tried so many different things in an attempt to fix this problem and now I'm looking for new ideas. Any help would be much appreciated.

I've tried doing the steps outlined int his article: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=241344 but I'm not sure how to go about Step 9 and onwards.

Thanks

Will people stop blaming IE for everything?? ITZ NOT ITZ FAULT!

Firstly, download all patches (at least critical) onces for win98, if u dont have 98SE, there'll be a lot there......

Also, downloadm update and scan with spybot s&d obtained freely from here: http://security.kolla.de

How do you connect to the internet? If it's dialup, it's just going to be slow and there will be timeouts resulting in the "page cannot be displayed" during peak hours when everything tends to slow down.

If you trust your ISP's support, then they may be correct. However, ISPs do have a tendency to refuse to admit there's anything wrong on their end or to explain the facts of internet life regarding net congestion.

As scmazter suggested, download, update and run AdAware. I recommened you also download, install, immediately update and then run Spybot as well. Each tends to find things the other misses.

As far as "trouble with the vertical scroll bar"...what kind of trouble?

By the way, I use DSL..

Anyway, thanks for your help...
