When ever I type something into the search box on anything on internet explorer I get a box indicated error reporting and wishing me to send it to microsoft. After that it will just restart internet explorer.

Can we clarify exactly what's going on please? Are you talking about pressing the search button and then trying to conduct a search in the pane on the left? IE crashes and is restarted by the error reporting tool.

What happens if you try to search from the address bar? Can you perform a search there?

Have you tried the Internet Explorer REpair tool?
Go to control Panel>add remove programs and scroll to the Internet Explorer Entry. Click remove.
From the box which will pop up, choose Repair.

Hiya

I think I know which one it is. It says connecting to Microsoft, and it shows a computer with signals going back and forth. Well, thats just a basic description.
That is the Error Reporting Tool that you can get from the Updates page. It was found out that this actually not only sends info about the page with the error, but also some info about yourself.
I have posted the link here somewhere. I'll track it down.

Its a waste of time having it. Try uninstalling it. Go to AddRemove and find it there and uninstall it.

This is the link:

To clarify I am using internet explorer 6. whenever I try to search from a web site that I have brought up using Internet explorer such as amazon.com and I try to conduct a search of music or anything else I get the explorer message about an error and it asks me to report it using the reporting page described above. How can I fix the problem? I have already tried using fix internet explorer under system information and tools.

Hiya

As I mentioned earlier, you don't really need it. Just uninstall it. Its just a way for Microsoft to understand IE, but its not a needed part of IE. I opted to not install it on my system, and I have no problems.

Hiya

Okay, lets try going back to a previous version of IE. Go to the AddRemove part again, but this time put a tick in "restore to previous windows configuration", then a tick in Add A companent, instead of Repair. Follow the prompts and select Internet Explorer. Ignore the warning and reinstall it anyway. Now, run the repair

John,

Let's start this all over again. (sigh, I know... :D)

You say 'When ever I type something into the search box on anything on internet explorer I get a box indicated error reporting and wishing me to send it to microsoft'.

Now, what really counts is the nature of this error.
It could be something completely banal, like the autocomplete cache needing to be emptied.

Next time you get the error, click 'Click here' in your error, and tell us what it says there:

Wanting to remove IE entirely because of this sure seems like overkill...

I cannot get to that point anymore. I have tried to remove IE6 and apparently was unsuccessful. I am not able to surf the web on that computer it says iexplorer.exe could not be found. Just please tell how to remove it completely from my computer so i can start over. ialready have explorer downloaded onto disk but when i try to install a message indicates that i already have the newest version of IE and the setup could not continue. Also as I noted above I have already tried to repair and try to go back to previous version to no avail.

You could remove it with IEradicator

Just make sure everything internet related , including of course Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, your antivirus, etcetera is shut down before you go about it.

Good luck,

I sure do appreciate your help TonyKlein. One more thing, I rebooted my computer into ms-dos mode and now I am stuck there, How do I get out. It show a c:/windows promt. I ahve typed exit and it just returns to the same screen. And typeing win asks if I want to go back to windos to enter y or n I press y and goes to the same prompt. As soon as i get booted back up into windows, I will try what you said and let you know how it goes.

try typing win followed by clicking 'enter', or good old Ctrl-alt-delete.

Greetz,
