Getting an error message reading " Internet Explorer can not download requested website. Website is unavailable or can not be found." Windows Media Player not wroking either. Think my browser is full of hidden files. How do I delete those? Windows 2000 piece of crap.

you can clear out your temp files and cache.
go to TOOLS/INET OPTIONS and you'll find these options

    Can I suggest www.firefox.com ?

Thanks for your response! I have done the Internet Tools deletion repeatedly, apparently to no effect. I really want to re-install firefox, but I can't download it. Same thing with AIM's IM. Same error message. Also, when I re-boot, my screen fills with all these bizarre files. My gmail also says my cache is full, so I have no idea other than the internet options avenue. Any other suggestions? I think I must have some virus. Thanks in advance for any insight!!!

sounds like a bigger issue than just IE. Try to post a HiJack This log an done of the security experts should be able to help you.

In the meantime, see if you can download and/or run some malware removers. Ad-Aware, Spy-Bot, etc...

    From the Security Sticky:

    * Click here to download HJTsetup.exe http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTsetup.exe

    * Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
    * Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
    * By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
    * Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
    * Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
    * Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
    * At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
    * Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
    * Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
    * Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
    * DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

IE won't let me download your suggestion. How do I change my settings so that files will download to my desktop? My "C" drive was my primary drive, but ran out of space, so a friend hooked up something (an "acomdata") and I do and save everything on my "E" drive now. When I do try to download something, there is no indication in the pop-up box where the filing is being downloaded or saved. I ran Ad-Aware and it didn't find anything. Is there someway I can trash IE? I've gone to the "Remove Programs," but when I click on IE, I get a pop-up box giving me only the option of repairing. I can't download firefox or anything as I get the same error message..."unavailable or can not be found." thanks again for your help. Btw...Nightmare is my favorite movie. Long live Jack!!!

you can right-click on a link and choose save link as, and choose the desktop to download/save.

Can you download firefox from a different pc and burn to cd?

    Can you post your specs?

When I right-clicked on the link, i was given the options of Open, Open in New Window, Save Target As, Print Target, Copy Shortcut, Add to Favorites, and Properties. I tried to Save the Target, wouldn't download, Shortcut wouldn't work, saved to Favorites, wouldn't download...ARGH! I posted my specs last night. Hope that will provide some illumination! I'll try to find someone willing to download and burn firefox to a cd.

I don't see any specs on this post. can you repost them?

If you work in an office, you might be able to ask someone in the IT dept to burn you a cd.

Do you think you can FTP?
I'm sure I can post firefox to an ftp site for you. I'll PM you with my email

Hi ace_coffee, You could email HJT zip file to him if you still have it since it is only 300kb.
