This is a follow-up to an earlier post that received no responses. I'm running windows 7 and IE on a laptop. I'm finding that after opening IE some of the files do not open and I get an error message. The affect is that I can not scroll current subjects. I can do most everything but scrolling freezes. It happens when the page loads but instead of saying "done" bottom of screen lower left it says "error on page", etc.. .

There might possibly be too many ads on some websites, especially those damn Flash ads.

You could try an ad blocker. Simple Adblock is free (for 200 blocked ads a day), small and simple, but quite effective. You could at least try it as a test?

I'll give it a try to see what happens. What I'm getting is an exclamation mark next to
"! error on page" or "! done"

Yes, you did give an explanation but the problem is such a nusiance I thought perhaps there is a solution to prevent it from recurring.

Are the pages showing the same errors when running IE without Add-ons?

    Do you have SpywareBlaster?

No, do not have SpywareBlaster. What does it do and is it safe. Also, if I run IE without add ons, which ones should I disable?

I ran IE with add ons turned off and had the same result.

1- Please click HERE to download HijackThis.

    2- Run the program.

3- Click on the Main Menu button if not already there.

4- Select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

5- Copy and paste the scan log from Notepad into your next reply.

6- Do not "Fix" anything unless advised to do so.

    For Windows 7 and Vista:

If Windows is denying access to the Hosts file, run HijackThis as Administrator or disable the UAC first.

Try restarting your computer in Safe Mode with Networking. Still getting the same errors or freezes?

Then, I would run a Clean Boot procedure to hopefully isolate an offending application (who knows, it might be Avast, or maybe Boingo Wi-Fi...). Run it for both Services and Startup items. And you do have a lot of Startup entries in there. I would trim that down.

Thanks for your time and help. I believe this is an IE problem and do not want to foul anything else up by experimenting. I'm thinking of installing Mozilla Firefox as a brouser and see if that resolves my problem. Do you know if I can leave IE on my laptop if I install and use Firefox?
