Hi, hope someone can help. I tried to use Quickbooks and it said I had to have IE6 or newer to use. I've always had IE. Long story short - it's GONE! I spent two days researching, following suggestions online, etc. and there is absolutely no trace of IE on my computer. I've tried to download and it doesn't complete. I've tried to restore my computer to an earlier time, which didn't work. I found a suggestion online to try restore in Safe Mode. That worked but did not restore IE. Computer is also telling me "there is a problem with windows help & support, it can't start". I am running windows 7. My computer was acting up a couple of weeks ago and I did several types of clean up programs - don't remember which ones at this point, but I think they were Microsoft (not sure). Any ideas?? Thank you for your help!

Control Panel then Programs and Features.

In the left pane, click on Turn Windows features on or off. Be patient; it takes awhile for the popup box to populate.
Make sure there is a check/tick in front of Internet Explorer 11.
If not select it and it should now be available.

Hi Liz, thanks for your respons! I did try that a few times. I would check the box, leave that page, and nothing happened. When I went back into that page, it was unchecked again. Maybe because there are no longer application files, or files of any kind related to IE on my computer? Thanks though!

Try running in command prompt: SFC /Scannow to scan your computer for missing files.

After you checked the box in front of IE11, did you click OK before you clicked the X at the top right to close the box?

You should also reboot. Since it is a Windows feature you've changed, you need to let Windows shut down the restart with the feature working.

It is impossible to remove IE from Windows 7 so the files are still on the computer. People give directions for "removing" IE but those directions really just make it invisible, it is not removed.

Search for a file named IEXPLORE.EXE and if found run it and it should start IE.

Hi Peter, I was so excited, I thought for sure that would fix it...but it came back with 100% ok and "did not find any integrity violations". Thanks for the response though!

Yes, each time I tried it I followed those steps, and rebooted, with no results. Thanks

Open Windows Explorer, click on the C drive (or the drive with windows on if different letter) then type IEXPLORE.EXE into the search area at top right. Did that find it ?

It found four different ones (program files, program files (x86), and two are MUI files). When I click on either of the two .exe files, windows explorer either locks up or it says it has stopped working and then shuts the window down. If I look directly at the Program Files dropdown, there is an IE folder, but it is empty.

I did. I thought for sure that would solve it, but it came back as 100% ok and "did not find any integrity violations". This is just crazy. I appreciate your help - thanks!

Thought this might work as I had tried it before but it was the 32 bit version (yes, mine is a 64). It went through most of the install and then I got these two error messages:
"Internet Explorer did not finish installing. For more information see the IE Troubleshooter."
I clicked on that link and got:
"Windows cannot find 'http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=299204' Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."
    Thanks for the link.
I had mentioned earlier that I'm getting weird Windows messages like certain features aren't available, and when I tried to safely remove a jump drive it said there were no devices attached (not true). I'm just wondering if this is some kind of virus? I have Bitdefender and am currently doing another full scan. Just a thought...
